coord_at_stored_unit(

coord counted as the file counts it, or None when nothing says.

A row holds datetimes in nanoseconds however its file stores them, and the dtype it records names the unit they are counted in, so the coordinate is cast to it. A row whose dtype names no unit is left to the patch path, which reads the file’s own.
